Full Name: Laura Ann Dusso, MA LMFT
Current title/company: Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist at Family
Length of time on MCF Board: I volunteered at fundraisers Kristina has had for a few years. I accepted Kristina’s invitation to join the board when it began – Spring of 2014 I believe.
How did you get connected with MedCity Foundation and how did you
become interested in its mission?
I have known the founder of MedCity Foundation, Kristina Hesby since she began to date her husband. My husband and Kristina’s husband have known each other since Kristina’s husband was a child and have played softball and other sports together. I have been touched by Kristina’s story of her father’s life, battle and death from Leukemia. I greatly felt his absence while attending Kristina’s wedding and am inspired by him and Kristina.
What is your current role within MedCity Foundation?
I started with MedCity Foundation as Secretary on the Board and continue to hold the position.
How do you hope to see Med City Foundation evolve over time?
I hope to see and be a part of Med City Foundation’s vision, which is for every blood cancer patient receiving care in Rochester MN can have all their basic financial and psychosocial needs met at no cost to them or their family.
What have you learned from being on Med City Foundation?
I have learned the great value of small deeds and donations and have had the privilege to witness patients and family members receive the time, talents and resources the foundation has made possible.
What is the most rewarding part of being apart of Med City Foundation?
I am in awe each time I get to hear about or observe the bravery of cancer patients and their families, such as during the monthly support group meetings.
What is your advice to people who want to become more involved?
Like Nike says, “Just Do It” it will feel better when you do.
Best moment on MCF board so far:
Meeting so many wonderful people involved, such as board members, patients and family members and people from community resources.
Now, a few fun questions:
Night or day person? Day person!
Best piece of advice ever given: Gandhi’s saying “Be the change you wish
to see in the world”.
Perfect weekend?: In the arms of my husband.
If you could have lunch with one person, who would it be and what would you order?: A deceased relative and we would eat my favorite food mashed potatoes with gravy.
